Programme: Friday, September 17th 10:30 – 15:00 The development of a dialogue on a National Water Policy has been a longstanding priority for the RCEN Water, Fisheries and Oceans Caucus. Many organizations, academic institution, and governments from across Canada have been contributing studies, reports, and recommendations for a National Water Policy. On September 17th, the RCEN hosted organizations and governments from across Canada to discuss strategies, and collaborative opportunities towards meaningful progress on national water issues. 10:30 – 12:30 Youth-Adult Partnership. What does it really mean for your organization, your community, and the health of the planet? A youth-adult team from the Peel Environmental Youth Alliance (PEYA) and EcoSource invited both youth and adults to attend this workshop to understand how both can work together for positive environmental change in Canada. Participants explored the meaning of youth-adult partnership, and reviewed some success stories. View the slides from PEYA and EcoSource's presentation 13:30 – 15:30 This roundtable addressed the provincial and federal environmental assessment roles within specific case examples including: Red Chris, Kemess North and White’s Point. The significance of the federal role in a rapidly changing landscape, including how recent changes to the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act are affecting mining proposal reviews, was also addressed. Agenda View the slides from MiningWatch Canada's presentation 13:30 – 15:00 With this workshop, the Canadian Institute for Environmental Law and Policy (CIELAP)s goal was to introduce youth to the public policy process as it relates to environmental policy in Canada. The session served as a general introduction to what policy is, the role of policy in influencing change, and also discussed various topics, including tips on how to research and write effective policy, and how to use policy research to influence the public policy process in Canada, at the federal and provincial levels. View the slides from CIELAP's presentation 15:00 – 16:30 The RCEN Youth Caucus, in partnership with Protect Our Water and Environmental Resources (POWER), invited all youth attending the 2010 RCEN Conference to go out and participate in the Biodiversity Street Interviews! Participants met people as they went out on the streets of Montreal with their cameras to find out what biodiversity truly means to people of all ages. These interviews will be compiled into a video to be presented at different biodiversity events. 18:00 – 19:00 With Alberto Yanosky, Executive Director of Guyra Paraguay. This event, which was presided by Manuel Schaerer Kanonnikoff, Embassador of Paraguay, took place at the Écomusée du Fier Monde.
