Yukon

Friends of McIntyre Creek, Whitehorse

On International Biodiversity Day, Friends of McIntyre Creek volunteer Tami Hamilton will use the wetland model at McIntyre Marsh to teach the public about the importance of wetlands to biodiversity, and threats to wetland biodiversity. She will introduce her talk with an overview of the Convention on Biodiversity, and International Biodiversity Day. At the same event either Tami or a volunteer from the Yukon Bird Club will lead an interpretive walk about the many migratory bird species found at McIntyre Marsh.

The two presenters will also talk about threats to McIntyre creek from proposed roads and housing developments, and why this important urban wildlife habitat is crucial for maintaining biodiversity in the Yukon’s capital city.
