Introduction to the Chemicals Management Plan (CMP) Capacity Building Project

The CMP Capacity Building project is a partnership between the Canadian Environmental Network (RCEN) and Environmental Defence. The objective of the project is to enhance civil society capacity to engage in the Government of Canada's Chemicals Management Plan (CMP).

Technical experts at Environmental Defence will conduct research and analysis on substances under assessment in the CMP, providing summaries in accessible formats. The RCEN will take the lead in disseminating the results of this research, along with opportunities for public engagement in the CMP, to a wide range of NGOs and civil society stakeholders. This website, a listserve, and bi-monthly newsletters provide opportunities for interested groups to access and share information and to collaborate on responses and input to the CMP.

The RCEN will also coordinate the activity of a national Advisory Committee. The Advisory Committee will participate in the development of collaborative priorities and workplans around the CMP, inform the research of the Technical Experts, engage other organizations in providing input to the CMP, and allocate available funding for NGO engagement. The Advisory Committee is open to representatives of environmental, health, labour, consumer, Aboriginal and youth organizations.
