Project Team and Activities
This project represents a collaboration between the Canadian Environmental Network (RCEN), Environmental Defence, RCEN member organizations and other NGO/civil society stakeholders.
Technical Experts
Kapil KhatterCassandra Polyzou
Two Technical Experts from Environmental Defence will gather, review, and analyse evidence related to the CMP on behalf of civil society. The Technical Experts bring both scientific training related to epidemiology and toxicology, as well as a policy perspective that will aid civil society in understanding the relative importance of the information gathered. The Technical Experts will summarize and present the scientific information gathered in accessible formats. They will also be available for specific technical inquiries from civil society stakeholders.
Project Coordinator
Leela RamachandranThe Project Coordinator will take the lead in facilitating the dissemination of this knowledge to a wide range of NGO/civil society stakeholders. The Project Coordinator will coordinate a CMP Listserve open to all civil society organizations, maintain a CMP Capacity Building website housed within the RCEN site, and publish an electronic bulletin every two months with updates and activities related to the CMP. The Project Coordinator will also facilitate meetings of the Advisory Committee (see below) with the Technical Experts.
National Advisory Committee
The National Advisory Committee to this project includes representatives of key civil society stakeholder groups including environmental, health, labour and other organizations. Advisory Committee members are selected by their respective constituencies to represent the broader interests and concerns of their communities, and to act as a liaison between the project team and their constituency. In collaboration with the Technical Experts and RCEN staff, the Advisory Committee establishes common priorities and collaborative workplans for civil society activities and responses in relation to the CMP. These priorities and workplans inform the work of the Technical Experts, as well as that of individual NGOs.
