Come help make Canada a leader at the 2012 UN Conference on Sustainable Development in Rio! The Canadian Earth Summit Coalition—a self-organized, independent and informal civil society network of non-governmental, academic and research organizations from across Canada that have come together to work towards Canadian leadership at Rio+20—had an immensely successful launch event on November 24th in Vancouver.  The Coalition's call to action for Rio+20 is named "WE CANada". Protect Our Water and Environmental Resources (P.O.W.E.R.) recently introduced the newest member of its family—the Mainstream BioDiversity newsletter. The purpose of the newsletter is to communicate, educate, raise public awareness and inspire action for biodiversity and the Convention on Biological Diversity. The 1st edition includes articles on “why biodiversity matters” and a special message from Ahmed Djoghlaf on the Nagoya Biodiversity Summit. Delegate Selection – 2nd Session of the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee to Prepare a Legally Binding Instrument on Mercury

The RCEN has selected one ENGO delegate to participate at the Second Session of the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee to Prepare a Legally Binding Instrument on Mercury (INC-2), as a member of the Canadian delegation. INC-2 is the second of five negotiating sessions planned between 2010 and 2013, for a global, legally binding agreement on mercury. The selected ENGO delegate is Anna Tilman, from the International Institute of Concern for Public Health. More information

Delegate Selection - National Energy Board Consultation on Environmental and Socio-economic Assessment Section Update to Filing Manual

Following a request from the National Energy Board (NEB), the RCEN's Environmental Planning and Assessment Caucus has selected 10 ENGO delegates to participate in a bilateral consultation to seek ENGO input into the Environmental and Socio-economic Assessment Section Update to the NEB's Filing Manual. The Filing Manual has been developed to provide guidance regarding the information the NEB would typically need when making its decision on a proposed project. View the list of selected delegates
