Environment Canada Workshop on Canada’s Engagement in the UNEP Global Mercury Partnership
The RCEN has been invited by Environment Canada to select three ENGO delegates and one active alternate to participate in a workshop on Canada’s engagement in the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) Global Mercury Partnership. This is a multi-stakeholder workshop where participants will work together to discuss and identify possibilities for Canadian engagement in the UNEP Global Mercury Partnerships. The estimated time commitment is one day to participate in the workshop. The workshop will take place on February 8th, in Gatineau, Quebec and by teleconference. Renewal of the Federal Agenda for the Reduction of VOCs from Consumer and Commercial Products
The RCEN has been invited by Environment Canada to select five ENGO delegates to participate in a consultation meeting concerning new proposals to limit volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in consumer and commercial products. The purpose of the meeting is to present background information and the proposed elements for a renewed Federal Agenda for the Reduction of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) from Consumer and Commercial Products. Participants in this multi-stakeholder consultation will also discuss the implications for environmental and human health concerns. The meeting will take place on March 3-4 in Toronto, ON. ENGO and Youth Delegates to the UN Commission on Sustainable Development
The Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade has invited the RCEN to select one ENGO and one youth delegate to participate in the official Canadian delegation to the eighteenth and nineteenth sessions of the United Nations Commission on Sustainable Development (CSD-18/19). The first meeting of this two-year cycle (CSD-18) is scheduled to take place from May 3-14, 2010 at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. As a review session, CSD-18 is tasked with identifying barriers and constraints, lessons learned and best practices in implementation in the thematic cluster of transport, chemicals, waste management, mining and the 10 Year Framework of Programmes on Sustainable Consumption and Production. The delegates will also be expected to participate in the Intergovernmental Preparatory Meeting and CSD-19. The deadline for applications is February 8, 2010. More information
Researcher-Writer and Editor for a Commission on Sustainable Development ENGO Priorities Paper
The Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade has invited the RCEN to coordinate the development of a Canadian ENGO Priorities Paper in advance of the eighteenth session of the UN Commission on Sustainable Development (CSD-18) from May 3-14, 2010. The RCEN is seeking one Researcher-Writer and one Editor to complete the paper during the month of February. The paper will explore, from a Canadian ENGO perspective and through a sustainable consumption and production lens, gaps and best practices related to the CSD-18/19 thematic cluster of transport, chemicals, waste management, mining and the 10 Year Framework of Programmes on Sustainable Consumption and Production.
