About Us

The Canadian Environmental Network (RCEN) facilitates cooperation and networking among non-profit, non-governmental environmental organizations across Canada and internationally.

Since 1977, we have been enabling and enhancing our members' work of protecting, conserving, restoring and promoting a clean, healthy, sustainable environment.

With over 600 member groups from rural and urban communities across the country, the RCEN is made up of Canadians from the entire spectrum of career paths and interests.

Our National Office is based in Ottawa, and Affiliate Networks can be found in each province and in the Yukon.

What We Do

The RCEN is an independent, non-partisan organization. Our primary role is to support environmental NGOs (ENGO) by providing them with valuable networking, communication and coordination services.

We also provide opportunities for ENGO representatives to participate in federal government meetings, conferences, workshops and consultations through a transparent, bilingual and democratic delegate selection process.

Getting Connected

health caucusFor over thirty years, the RCEN has been at the heart of the environmental movement in Canada, acting as a vital link between large and small groups from coast to coast to coast.

By working together at consultations and workshops, or through various caucuses or committees, local, regional and national groups can share experiences and build strong relationships with each other and with various government departments.

Consultation Services

For the past 30 years, the RCEN has helped strengthen the relationship between the Government of Canada and the ENGO community. An increasing number of federal government departments favour the RCEN for bringing ENGO representatives to consultations through a democratic, bilingual, and transparent selection process, supported by the environmental community nationwide.

Government departments and agencies that are interested in ensuring a multi-stakeholder approach to national and international policy development and implementation are invited to contact us for more information.
