Action Alert:

Inclusion of Chrysotile on the PIC List.

Dear all,

The Asbestos Victims Association of Québec (AVAQ) has faxed yesterday a letter (see attachment) to the 38 members of the Canadian Ministry about the environmental situation in
the Thetford-Mines area and the attitude of the Canadian Govt. concerning the inclusion of chrysotile on the PIC list.

We will also hold a press conference about these issues in Montreal on the 15th of September 2004.

We feel that other letters coming from BAC, BAC members, canadian groups and unions and individuals to voice their support to the inclusion of chrysotile on the PIC list could have a strong influence on the members of the ministry on this issue. As you know the decision to include or not chrysotile on the PIC list will take place in Geneva on the 18th September during the Rotterdam Convention. - FAXES ARE MORE EFFECTIVE THAN E-MAILS -

In the mean time IBAS with the usual committment of Laurie will issue a sign-in letter throughout the international network.

We have informations that the support to maintain chrysotile out of the PIC list is weakening and our letters and messages could very well make the difference.

We're getting there,

Roch
