Action Alert
2008 Federal Election Action Alert: “Commit the Candidates” to strong action on climate change!
Over 35 organizations (e.g. David Suzuki Foundation, Équiterre, Greenpeace, Oxfam Canada and Sierra Club Canada) are calling on groups in all regions to get involved in the KYOTOplus federal election campaign. Every candidate in every riding is being asked to sign the “KYOTOPLUS Pledge for Canadian Politicians.” The pledge commits signatories to work for UN-recommended, science-based targets at the UN Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen in December, 2009, and to a credible national policy to achieve them. It is being during the election to differentiate the parties in the media based on their candidates’ willingness to sign.
Please help to collect signatures in your area and to publicize the results in your regional and local media. You can download the pledge at www.kyotoplus.ca. To avoid duplicating our efforts, contact Ruth Edwards at ruth@kyotoplus.ca to find out which ridings need to be covered. Ruth will also be happy to discuss how your group can participate in the longer campaign leading up to Copenhagen.
