Calls For Delegates

 
i.
VOC Content of Automative Refinish Coatings
 

Environment Canada (EC) has asked the Canadian Environmental Network (RCEN) to select 3 ENGO representatives to attend a consultation on Volatile Organic Compound (VOC) content of automative refinish coatings. This consultation is scheduled to take place on Friday, May 5th in Toronto, Ontario. The deadline to apply is Friday, April 14, 2006.

Travel, accommodations and meals will be covered by Treasury Board Guidelines. The 3 delegates will each receive $1,000 to review pre-consultation information, to participate in a conference call, to attend the May 5th, 2006 consultation, and to write one consolidated post-consultation report by June 7th, 2006. Calls For Participation

 
i.
ENGO Sector Sustainability Tables Task Groups

 

The Canadian Environmental Network (RCEN) is seeking ENGO representatives that are members of RCEN Caucuses to take part in ENGO Sector Sustainability Tables (SST) Task Groups (TG) that will oversee ENGO involvement in the SST process. The Task Groups' main role will be to develop strategies, provide input, review reports and other documentation, and support existing and future RCEN delegates at the Tables. The current SST Task Groups are for the following sectors: Energy, Mining, Forest and Cross-Cutting. Participation is on a volunteer-basis only; participation will not be financially compensated.

Each Task Group meets once a month via teleconference. To join a TG fill in the relevant fields of the online application form and note which TG you wish to join. RCEN and Environment Canada Conference Call on the Weather Service
 

RCEN members are invited to take part in a teleconference on April 18, 2006 at 1pm EST with Environment Canada (EC) regarding the Weather Service, specifically the accuracy of weather reports (the benefit of local vs. national weather networks) on the Weather Service. More information on specific environmental issues and topics can be found on the Weather Service Office website or the Meteorological Service of Canada website. A presentation will be given by EC on its role in providing Canadians with the weather services they need to protect their health and safety as well as to enhance their socio-economic activities.

To participate, contact Suzanne Boileau before TODAY, April 7, 2006 at 5:00pm EST. Please indicate your preferred language for the call. RCEN and Environment Canada Conference Call on Risk-Based Management
 

RCEN members are invited to take part in a teleconference on May 3rd, 2006 from 2:00-3:30 pm EST with Environment Canada (EC) regarding the Precautionary Principle and Risk-Based Management. A presentation will be given by EC senior management engaged on this issue, following by questions and discussion with RCEN members. This is the third in a series of regular conference calls between EC and RCEN.

To participate, contact Suzanne Boileau before April 26th, 2006. More information will be sent out as it becomes available. Please indicate your preferred language for the call. CIDA International Youth Internship Positions
 

One Sky, Canadian Institute of Sustainable Living, is seeking a highly skilled fund development consultant or organization to develop the capacity of Nigerian environmental organizations in Cross River State, Nigeria. This is a short-term contract as part of a CIDA-funded bilateral project. Please contact kristin@onesky.ca for more information.

One Sky is very pleased to be offering four CIDA International Youth Internship positions for 2006 - 2007, two for Sierra Leone and two location to be confirmed. Interns work in Canada for three months and are placed with a local organization overseas for five months. For Sierra Leone we are hiring a Permaculture Youth Intern and an Environmental Outreach Youth intern. Offer of Grants, Climate Action Network Canada
  The Climate Action Network Canada is offering grants of up to $5,000 for projects aimed at strengthening political and popular support for effective action to address climate change. The deadline for submitting letters of intent is April 30, 2006. For submission details, visit the Climate Action Network website.

World Urban Forum Municipal Global Village
  The Government of Canada will host the third session of the World Urban Forum (WUF3) in partnership with UN-HABITAT from June 19–23, 2006 in Vancouver. Under the theme Our Future: Sustainable Cities — Turning Ideas Into Action, more than 6,000 participants from 150 countries are expected to attend.

The Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) is also creating a virtual Municipal Global Village to provide municipal audiences worldwide with timely information leading up to the event. This space will include important links to the WUF3 website, where participants can obtain background and event registration information. The municipal world can also reach the virtual Municipal Global Village through the FCM and WUF3 websites. To register to the WUF3, visit the UN Habitat website.

Joint International GMOpposition Day

 

The Joint International GMOppostion Day, a worldwide event, is to be held on the 8th of April 2006, with the twofold aim of informing people and demonstrating the front of concerned organizations against GMOs (both open-air plants and food). This action will be distributed over several Information Sites, and possibly linked through Internet video connections. For more information visit the event website.

Administrative and Accounting Assistant

 

The Canadian Environmental Network (RCEN) is seeking an Administrative and Accounting Assistant to assist to the administration and accounting functions of the organization, such as: Prepare and record accounts payable and receivable; Assist the comptroller with the year-end financial audit; Maintain the RCEN database; Coordinate meetings and take minutes; Perform monthly bank reconciliations; Maintain required records, reports and files in an organized manner; Maintain telephone system, process mail and courier; Maintenance of office supplies, and other related duties. The chosen candidate will work under the supervision of the Executive Director. Qualifications include a college diploma or university degree in accounting and 2 years of previous bookkeeping experience. Excellent writing and verbal skills in both English and French are mandatory.

Environnement Jeunesse (ENJEU) is seeking an Executive Director to carry out their human resources, organizational, and administrative and financial management as well as public representations and relations. Job qualifications and skills include proven manifest interest and expertise in personnel, financial and administrative management, as well as responsiveness to the community, environmental and youth organizations specific environment. Complete mastery of French is required.
