Calls For Delegates

 
i.
Civil Society Meeting on the Special Theme of the 2007 Commonwealth Finance Ministers Meeting: Climate Change and Poverty Reduction
 

The Commonwealth Foundation has invited the RCEN to nominate one (1) representative to take part in a civil society consultation on the Special Theme of the 2007 Commonwealth Finance Ministers’ Meeting, from 18 to 20 July 2007, in Georgetown, Guyana. The Special Theme of the 2007 meeting is Climate Change and Poverty Reduction. The Commonwealth Foundation will cover the cost of participants including a round-trip economy class airfare and accommodation in Georgetown from 16 - 20 July, as well as any related visa, terminal and transit costs. An allowance will also be provided to cover the cost of meals and incidentals. The deadline to apply is Wednesday, July 4, 2007. If you are interested in participating, visit the RCEN website.

ENGO Participation to the Energy Sector Sustainability Table
 

Environment Canada has asked the RCEN to select one (1) ENGO representative for the Energy Sector Sustainability Table (ESST). The selected ENGO representative will be expected to attend the next ESST meeting, to be held July 13, 2007 in Toronto, as well as regular subsequent meetings (date and location to be determined). The selected delegate will receive $500 per day of preparation and $500 per day of meeting. Moreover, travel, accommodation and meals for meetings will be covered as per Treasury Board Guidelines. Sign On to Great Lakes United Position Paper on Great Lakes Water Quality Agreement

 

The Canadian and U.S. Governments have put out a document for public comment, which reviews the Great Lakes Water Quality Agreement. Great Lakes United has put together a statement proposing a direction forward on the GLWQA. ENGOs are invited to sign onto the position statement by July 10, 2007.

The RCEN welcomes Susan Tanner as our new Executive Director. Susan will be responsible for matters relating to governance and strategic planning, as well as the development and management of internal and external policies. Report on Public Consultation Sessions on the Next Generation of Agriculture and Agri-Food Policy
 

Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC) has posted a comprehensive report on public consultation sessions on the Next Generation of Agriculture and Agri-Food Policy, which took place from January to March 2007. The first part of the report includes feedback received during the public sessions. The second part of the report, which includes comments obtained through the online consultation sessions, will be posted later this summer, along with individual session reports from all of the public sessions. In addition, written submissions received from stakeholders as part of the multi-phased consultation process have also been posted to the website.

Canadian Centre for Energy Information Updated Website
 

The Canadian Centre for Energy Information recently re-launched its website, which now includes a new consumer information section, and discusses tips on reducing energy use, updates on electricity and natural gas rates, regulations designed to protect consumer interests, and energy tips to help consumers save energy and money. The new section also includes videos, podcasts, links and interactive tools such as energy calculators.

The RCEN is currently conducting a Call for nominations for membership on the Atmosphere & Energy Caucus Steering Committee. This is an excellent opportunity for RCEN members to be part of Caucus decision-making and the planning of activities! This call is open to all RCEN members who belong to, or are willing to join, the Atmosphere & Energy Caucus. Current Steering Committee members are eligible to re-apply. The nomination deadline is July 6, 2007.

Call for Submissions: Suggestions for Speakers at the 2007 RCEN Conference on the Environment

 

The RCEN Conference Planning Committee is seeking suggestions for the keynote address at the RCEN’s 30th Anniversary Gala, as part of this year’s Conference on the Environment and Health to be held November 3, 2007 in Ottawa. The Gala will highlight the RCEN’s contribution to the protection of the environment, as well as the various achievements of the environmental movement in Canada, over the past thirty years.  To suggest a speaker, please e-mail the following information to Claire Sales, RCEN Events Administrator, by July 3, 2007: speaker’s full name, organization, contact information and a brief overview of how this speaker’s work relates to the topic of the Gala. Please take into account the conference’s limited budget for travel and speaking fees.

International Congress: A Global Vision of Forestry in the 21st Century

 

On the occasion of its Centennial Celebration, the Faculty of Forestry, University of Toronto, has taken up a challenge to develop a comprehensive Global Vision of Forestry in the 21st Century. The vision will be developed through an International Congress which will be held on September 30-October 3, 2007, in Toronto, Canada. Details of the Congress are currently available on the Congress website. Early Registration Fee (until June 30) is $400 while the Full Registration Fee is $500.

The Canadian Environmental Network (RCEN) is currently seeking a Communications Coordinator. Reporting to the Associate Executive Director, the Communications Coordinator will be responsible for all internal and external communications, including the RCEN website and weekly E-Bulletin, to ensure optimum networking and communications capabilities. Only candidates who are fully bilingual (French, English) will be selected for interviews. The deadline to apply is July 18, 2007.

Office and Events Administrator, RCEN

 

The Canadian Environmental Network (RCEN) is currently seeking an Office and Events Administrator. Reporting to the Associate Executive Director, the Office and Events Administrator will assist in performing multiple duties related to the administration of the RCEN office, will organize the logistics for the Annual Conference on the Environment (ACE) and will assist the Executive Director. Only candidates who are fully bilingual (French, English) will be selected for interviews. The deadline to apply is July 11, 2007.
