Petitions should be sent to B.C. Premier Gordon Campbell, and should ask that his government create and implement a credible plan to meet B.C.’s target.

New UN Report on the Potential of Urban Growth

The 30th edition of the United Nations Population Fund’s (UNFPA) annual report, State of World Population, this year turns its focus on urban growth. The report states that although cities have pressing immediate concerns, including poverty, housing, environment, governance and administration, reacting to urban challenges as they arise is no longer sufficient, and cities must plan ahead, with specific attention given to poverty reduction and sustainability.

To read the report, visit the UNFPA website.

New Report on Rising Pollution Levels in Great Lakes Fish

Environmental Defence has released a new report on rising pollution levels in Great Lakes Fish, to coïncide with the launch of the Ontario Family Fishing Weekend, from July 6-8, 2007. The report, Up to the Gills: Pollution in Great Lakes Fish, analyzed the fish advisories published by the Ontario Ministry of the Environment for four species of fish in 13 locations across the Great Lakes. According to their website, the report found that “many categories of fish are somewhat or completely unfit for human consumption, and that other categories of fish are becoming so.”

To read the report, visit the Environmental Defence website or subscribe to the Green News electronic bulletin to receive future alerts.
