The mandate of the 7-year review committee is to prepare caucus members, and others in the environmental community, for the upcoming review of the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act, and to present the views of the Caucus at RAC and other opportunities. If funding is made available, our priorities in the coming year are to: 1. Sponsor a series of six public workshops across the country to provide information on both the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act and the upcoming Seven Year Review; 2. Survey member groups to document their history of participation within the CEAA framework; and, 3. Create four research documents that will help inform the public on a variety of issues that will be useful for participating in the Review - a. Adaptive management and EA, b. Substitution, c. Moving away from self-assessment and, d. Future of small project assessment.
MPMO / Multi-jurisdictional / Harmonization: John Sinclair (Chair), Doug Badger, Joseph Hnatiuk, Jamie Kneen, Arlene Kwasniak, Michael Poellet
In light of the challenges facing the federal EA regime, and the advent of the Major Projects Management Office (MPMO), the Cross Jurisdiction Committee takes as its mandate to:
a) monitor changes in the development and application of EA and planning legislation in all jurisdictions in Canada (including the activities of the MPMO);
b) highlight and share the most interesting and useful developments, and; c) investigate and propose alternative models for effective EA based on a potentially reduced federal role.
