The Mining Association of Canada (MAC) Board is pursuing ways
to have more substantive involvement by a range of mining communities
of interest in the Toward Sustainable Mining (TSM) Initiative.
It has proposed the idea of a Community of Interest Advisory Panel.
A Design Team comprising a few senior individuals from the MAC
membership and individuals from key national-level mining communities
of interest was formed last spring to design the Terms
of Reference for the Advisory Panel. MAC invited CEN to select
one ENGO representative for this TSM Advisory Panel.
MAC requires that Panel members be individuals who are knowledgeable
about mining industry policy and performance issues; are well-respected
in their own constituency and among a range of other mining interests;
and, have solid experience in participating in such multi-interest
processes. In addition, they are expected to:
- Be knowledgeable about mining and sustainable development
- Demonstrate commitment to constructive engagement, and to
moving the process forward
- Bring a broad range of divergent views and perspectives,
including new perspectives and participation
- Bring diverse regional perspectives, including Francophone
representation
- Be able to devote time and effort
The TSM Advisory Panel members have to commit for two years and
will have to participate to 2 face-to-face meeting and to conference
calls in the next year. The panel member will be expected to do
some work between meetings.
Travel, accommodation and meals will be covered for the face-to-face
meetings as well as an honorarium (the amount could be between
$200 to $300 per day – to be confirmed soon).
