European Union Chemical Policy Meeting, Washington DC, October 21, 2003

The Toxics Caucus of the CEN has been approached by the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade (DFAIT) with an invitation for a CEN member to attend a meeting to discuss the European Union Chemical Policy and its REACH program (Registration, Evaluation and Authorization of Chemicals) in Washington DC on October 21st. Canada is proposing to organize this meeting for Canadian stakeholders at the Canadian Embassy with a group of European Chemical Policy experts who are on a 4-city tour of the United States from October 20-27. The touring group consists of representatives of the European Commission, Member States, and various stakeholder groups (industry, labour, consumer and public advocacy groups) representing a spectrum of views. This meeting offers the opportunity to gain a better understanding of the EU chemicals policy. Further, these policy developments may assist the work of the Canadian ENGO community around the management of toxic substances.

The CEN delegate selection process has chosen Paul Muldoon of the Canadian Environmental Law Association, to attend the European Union Chemical Policy meeting in Washington DC on October 21st.
