Background Information
NRCan-CFS plays an active part in the global dialogue on forest management, in order to ensure that our domestic environmental, economic, social and cultural interests are protected. In preparing Canadian positions for these fora, NRCan-CFS works closely with other federal departments and seeks the views of various stakeholders, including ENGOs. The 7 th Session of the United Nations Forum on Forests (UNFF7) will take place 16-27 April 2007, and the RCEN-coordinated ENGO position paper will be used as the Government of Canada develops its position for the meeting. As well, a Memorandum to Cabinet is being considered for Canada to enter into negotiations for a legally binding instrument for forests, for which the ENGO position and support will be important.
