Stakeholder Consultations on the Regulatory Framework for Air Emissions

In May and June 2007, the Government of Canada undertook stakeholder consultations on its Regulatory Framework for Air Emissions, in order to facilitate understanding of the Framework among stakeholders and seek stakeholder input. The RCEN selected a total of thirty (30) ENGO representatives to attend three meetings.

Ten ENGO delegates attended one of two identical multi-stakeholder meetings in Montreal (May 31-June 1, 2007) and Vancouver (May 4-5, 2007). These meetings were held to present and seek input on the cross-cutting elements of the Framework, including emissions trading, credit for early action, scope of the greenhouse gas offset system, potential for a NO x and SO X offset system, and a technology fund.

Twenty ENGO delegates attended an ENGO consultation in Ottawa from May 6-8, 2007. ENGO views were sought on the validation of air emissions targets, including the timeframe for their entry into force, and the implementation of the target structure for greenhouse gases.
