Bisphenol A (CAS 80-05-7) Proposed Regulations Consultation

Environment Canada (EC) asked the RCEN to select five (5) Environmental NGO delegates to take part in a one-day consultation to discuss the proposed regulatory provisions to limit the concentration of Bisphenol A (BPA) released from industrial final effluent.

The selected ENGO delegates were:

The consultation will took place in Toronto on November 27th, with the following representation:

  • NGOs with experience in assessing and managing environment toxic substances (i.e. Bisphenol A) in industrial effluent. 
  • Industry or associations that manufacture, transform, reformulate, import or use Bisphenol A. Possible implicated sectors include: adhesive and sealant; chemical manufacturing and distribution; polymer manufacturing; paints and coatings; packaging; resin and synthetic rubber manufacturing; concrete product manufacturing; plastics and plasticizer manufacturing and distribution; rubber manufacturing; automotive, aircraft and transportation sector; metals, metallurgical, metal plating sector; mining and mineral products; petroleum, oil well treatment and drilling, pulp and paper, textiles and other commercial manufacturing.
  • Federal, Provincial and Territorial Governments with regulatory power to control chemical substances in the environment.

Delegates participated in an open-forum discussion related to BPA use and regulation in Canada (see questions here). Information from this discussion will be considered in drafting regulations. 

Please note: a public comment period 30 following the consultation is open for anyone to provide their comments on the proposed regulations.
