Draft Binational Report Reviewing the Great Lakes Water Quality Agreement

Call for Comments: Draft Binational Report Reviewing the Great Lakes Water Quality Agreement

ENGOs are invited, by the Great Lakes Binational Executive Committee, to offer comments on a draft binational report reviewing the Great Lakes Water Quality Agreement (GLWQA). The Review was commissioned by the Governments of Canada and the United States in response to a requirement to periodically review the operation and effectiveness of the Agreement. Over 350 Canadians and Americans have been involved in the review thus far, and they hope to maintain this high level of participation in the public comment period.

The public comment period presents an important opportunity for members of the Great Lakes community to be heard on the findings of the 2007 Review before the Review draws to a close.  All comments are welcomed. The draft 2007 Review Report documents the first major review of the Agreement in nearly twenty years.

The public comment period will last 60 days, from May 14, 2007 to July 14, 2007. The report, which will take into consideration all comments received, will then be transmitted to the Governments of Canada and the United States to determine next steps.

To submit comments please visit the Binational website, where you will find the draft Review Report posted.  The website has been designed to facilitate the submission of your comments.  This website also outlines the next steps in the Agreement Review Process.
