The Biosafety Protocol Advisory Group (BPAG) and Article 18 of the Biosafety Protocol

Holly Penfound of Greenpeace and Michelle Swenarchuck of the Canadian Environmental Law Association represent ENGO interests on the BPAG. At the BPAG meeting of April 26, 2001, members were informed of several items that will be considered at the second Intergovernmental Committee for the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety (ICCP2) to be held on October 1-5 2001 in Nairobi including Compliance and Decision making, (from ICCP 1) and Liability and redress; and Monitoring and reporting (new at ICCP 2). In preparation for ICCP 2, the government will be developing Canadian position papers on all items. In accord with the recommendations from the BPAG, you are invited to consider all the items and provide by August 1, 2001, any views you have on each of them.
