Environment Canada held its Fourth National Workshop on the Environmental
Performance of the Base Metals Smelting Sector in Ottawa on February
12-13, 2004.
At the Workshop, Environment Canada presented the content of
proposed instruments to be made pursuant to the Canadian Environmental
Protection Act (CEPA) 1999:
- a Notice requiring Base Metals Smelting and Refining facilities
to prepare and implement pollution prevention (P2) plans to
be published under the authority of section 56 of CEPA; and,
- an Environmental Code of Practice to be published under the
authority of section 54 of CEPA.
Delegate Selection Results:
The selected delegates for the Workshop were: Anna Tilman, STORM
Coalition; Bruce Walker, STOP; Peter Ormond Positive Power Co-operative;
Amy Crook, Environmental Mining Council of BC; Tommy Wynn, Trail
and District Environmental Group; and Don Mcgraw, USWA, Environment
