Selection of Youth and ENGO Representatives for the Official Canadian Delegation at CSD 12:

The CEN oversaw the selection of one youth (age 18 to 26) and one ENGO representatives to sit on the Canadian Delegation for the Twelfth Session of the Commission on Sustainable Development (CSD-12). The CSD 12 will be held in New York from April 19 - 30, 2004. The topics of discussion are Water, Sanitation and Human Settlements.

The selected ENGO representative is Leslie Adams from Protect Our Water and Environmental Resources (POWER), Ontario.

The selected Youth representatives are Aftab Erfan from McGill School of Urban Planning in Montréal, Québec, and Giselle Weybrecht.

Please contact them to give them your input and to receive their report during and after the CSD.

You can also give your input to DFAIT on CSD 12 by participating at their public consultation via teleconference or face-to-face. This consultation will be held on Tuesday March 9, 2004 in Ottawa from 1:00 to 3:00 pm Eastern Standard Time. See more information about it here.

Canadian Environmental Network CSD 12 selection committees would like to thank all applicants. We also like to acknowledge that there were over 50 applications for the youth position!

The main selection criteria to join an official Canadian delegation as ENGO or Youth representative for a UN meeting are:

• Knowledge and expertise of the issues to be discussed;
• Connection with youth or ENGO organizations;
• Experience with United Nations or international meetings or processes (not required for the youth position);
• Willingness to work with CEN and/or Youth Environmental Network members before, during and after the meeting in order for the movement to be well represented;
• Meet the expectations and requirements as mentioned in the call for delegate.
