SBSTTA 10 and ABS 3 Meeting in Bangkok, Thailand ENGO in Official Canadian Delegation

The CEN has selected Jerry DeMarco from Environmental Defence Canada to be the ENGO representative part of the Canadian Official Delegation for the upcoming SBSTTA-10 and ABS-3 meetings in February 2005.

1. Tenth Meeting of the Subsidiary Body on Scientific, Technical and Technological Advices (SBSTTA-10)
7-11 February 2005 - Bangkok, Thailand
Main issues to be discussed at SBSTTA 10:
1. Island Biodiversity
2. Indicators - Strategic issues for evaluating progress in or supporting implementation of the Strategic Plan 3. Incentive Measure: ways and means to remove or mitigate perverse incentives;
4. Agricultural biodiversity
5. Global Taxonomy Initiative
6. Climate change: terms of reference for an ad hoc technical expert

The Biodiversity Convention Office of Environment Canada has enough funding to send only one delegate that will have to participate at both meetings. The ENGO, as part of the Canadian Delegation for these meetings, would have the opportunity to participate in a wide range of activities, including daily Canadian delegation meetings, plenary sessions, and acting as an observer during negotiations of topics regarding areas of interest.
