Consultation in Progress

National Pollutant Release Inventory (NPRI) Consultations

The NPRI is the only legislated, nationwide, publicly accessible inventory of its type in Canada. It was established in 1992 to improve public access to information on pollutants and polluters, evaluate releases and transfers of substances of concern, identify and take action on environmental priorities, and track progress in pollution prevention.

The RCEN has selected five delegates and one alternate to participate on the NPRI multi-stakeholder Work Group on Substances (WG), which participates in the process of improving the NPRI. Current challenges include: addressing dioxins and furans; alternate thresholds for some substances; and criteria air contaminants.
