Consultation in Progress
Multi-Stakeholder Discussion Group on Greenhouse Gases (GHGs) and Air Pollution
When: To be announced - the first meeting is anticipated to take place in the fall of 2007
Where: Ottawa, ON
On July 26th, 2007 several environmental organizations along with a number of industry associations wrote a letter to the Prime Minister requesting that a multi-stakeholder committee be established to provide advice to the government on the design of the Clean Air Regulatory Framework. In response to this letter the Minister of the Environment has established an Informal Industry/ENGO Multi-stakeholder Discussion Group on GHGs and Air Pollution.
Climate Action Network Canada (CAN-RAC) and the Canadian Environmental Network (RCEN) were invited to select a total of four (4) ENGO representatives to participate in this Discussion Group. Representatives were chosen to ensure that ENGO views on climate change and air pollution would be represented in a balanced manner.
Selected ENGO delegates to the Discussion Group:
Stephen Hazell, Sierra Club of Canada, ON
Nashina Shariff, Toxics Watch Society of Alberta, AB
Quentin Chiotti, Pollution Probe, ON
Matthew Bramley, Pembina Institute, QC (will participate in discussions on GHGs/Climate Change issues)
Lisa Gue, David Suzuki Foundation, ON (will participate in discussions on Air Pollution/Clean air issues)
Alternate: Anna Tilman, STORM Coalition, ON
The Informal Multi-Stakeholder Discussion Group will address key issues related to the development of the Clean Air Regulatory Framework such as the design of the technology fund, the offset system and the air pollution targets. Specific agenda items will be determined in the coming weeks.
