Call for Delegates
National Pollutant Release Inventory (NPRI)
The CEN is overseeing the nomination of ENGOs
for the expansion of the National Pollutant Release
Inventory (NPRI) to include two sub-groups (Alternate
Thresholds and Mining), and toward Quebec-based
ENGO participation in the main stakeholder workgroup.
The ENGO delegates to the main stakeholder group
will oversee the selection of the Quebec-based
ENGO and of the ENGO delegates to the Alternate
Thresholds sub-groups. Selection of ENGO delegates
to the Mining sub-group will be overseen by the
CEN Mining Caucus.
The deadline for all positions is noon (EDT),
August 1, 2003.
The work of the Alternate Thresholds group will
involve the consideration of alternate thresholds
for pollutants to trigger NPRI reporting. The
workplan remains undefined until later in the
summer, but the two (2) participants can expect
one ENGO teleconference, and one stakeholder workgroup
teleconference, and possibly one sub-group teleconference
between now and the next NPRI face-to-face in
Halifax (September 15-16).
The 3 ENGO delegates to the Mining sub-group
can expect one ENGO teleconference, one stakeholder
teleconference and up to two sub-group teleconferences
between now and the face-to-face stakeholder meeting
in Halifax (September 15-16).
Quebec-based ENGOs are invited to submit an application
to join the main stakeholder workgroup.
All applicants should provide full contact coordinates
as well as a brief summary of their expertise
on the file, their organizational capacity to
support this work, and their history and willingness
to network with affiliated ENGOs working on the
NPRI and the broader caucus network. All travel
and accommodation is reimbursed. The CEN is attempting
to negotiate ENGO capacity support for this work
that would offset the cost of participation. General
information on the NPRI, including links to more
information sources, are available on the CEN
website.
