Consultation Details
The Forest Stewardship Council is a non-governmental
non-profit organization, which promotes good forest
management by developing certification standards,
by promoting certification and by accrediting
third-party certification bodies. FSC Canada is
presently developing a certification standard
for the boreal forest of Canada and will hold
a national forum to provide an opportunity to
exchange ideas and issues. The forum will be held
21-24 May 2003 in Toronto.
FSC Canada invited CEN to select 1 ENGO representative.
Preferably, the representative should have relevant
expertise as well as experience in developing
or implementing forest certification standards.
This forum will follow the consultation phase
for the FSC National Boreal Standard Draft 1.1
in which, the FSC Canada Working Group together
with the Boreal Coordinating Committee will hear
views, perspectives and issues from representatives
of regional groups and sector-based coalitions.
The intent of such a forum is:
- to provide an opportunity to exchange and
come to common understanding regarding ideas;
- to establish a priority ranking regarding
differing issues;
- to recommend and agree on specific approaches
for reconciliation;
- to build broad support for decisions taken.
Present at that forum will be the FSC Board,
the FSC Boreal Coordinating Committee, representatives
from the National Standards Advisory Committee,
the volunteer chairs of each of the FSC regional
initiatives and one nominee from each of the following
constituencies: the ENGO coalition, FPAC, the
Aboriginal Advisory Council and the Canadian Labour
Congress.

process, I invite you to visit the FSC
Canada website, and the FSC
boreal page.
