Consultation Details

Ethylene oxide is used to sterilize various instruments from the health care sector and was placed on the second Priority Substances List (PSL2) in December 1995. Although sterilization is not a major use of EO in terms of volumes consumed, it is the most significant source of release to the environment (62% of all air releases). A draft risk management strategy has been prepared to outline the objectives, instruments and approaches proposed to reduce the risk to human health associated with ethylene oxide. ENGOs with interest and experience in this area are asked to contact Derek Stack before the May 20th deadline.
