Second meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP2) to the Convention on Biological Diversity and Meeting of the Parties (MOP2) to the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety

The RCEN selected Lynn Palmer of the Falls Brook Centre to be the ENGO representative part of the Canadian Official Delegateion for the second meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity serving as the Meeting of the Parties to the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety, which took place in Montreal, Quebec from May 30 to June 3, 2005.

Signed by 150 government leaders at the 1992 Rio Earth Summit, the Convention on Biological Diversity recognizes that biological diversity is about more than plants, animals and micro organisms and their ecosystems - it is about the need for food security, medicines, fresh air and water, shelter, and a clean and healthy environment.
