Call for Delegates
Reference Group On Metal Mining Effluent Regulations
The RCEN Mining Caucus is seeking interested ENGO representatives
to form a Reference Group that will be involved in the review
of the proposed amendments to the Metal Mining Effluent Regulation
(MMER). Environment Canada organized a workshop in the fall to
discuss proposed amendments to the MMER and it was decided that
a Multi-stakeholder advisory group (MAG) will be formed to undertake
the review of all these proposed amendments. See more information

The Mining Caucus Reference Group (RG) will be made of ENGO representatives
interested and knowledgeable on issues related to mines. The RG
will be working with the 4 ENGO representatives to the MAG.
Role and level of commitment required for the RG members:
- RG work will begin at the end of March 2005 and will end
after the amendments are posted in Gazette 2, around December
2006;
- Attend bi-monthly RG conference calls from March 2005 to
December 2006 (the number of calls will be in conjunction with
the schedule of work of the MAG);
- Give input to the 4 ENGO representatives part of the MAG;
- Contribute to two official reports to be presented to Environment
Canada on ENGO’s perspectives on the proposed amendments
(each report will be presented to EC before a MAG annual face-to-face
meeting);
- Support the work of the MAG ENGO representatives.
The role and commitment will be reviewed during the first RG
conference call and may be subject to change.
