Background Information

In 2004, the Ministers of Health and the Environment published the Federal Agenda to Reduce VOC Emissions from Consumer and Commercial Products. The Agenda includes a commitment to develop regulations for the VOC-content of automotive refinish coatings. Using the background information gathered to date, Environment Canada will consult with stakeholders on elements under consideration for regulations to limit the VOC-content of automotive refinish coatings. At the consultation, the background information gathered to date and proposed elements for a regulation will be discussed with stakeholders.

Consultations and discussions led by Environment Canada for developing regulations for VOC-content limits of architectural and industrial maintenance coatings are of a similar subject matter to those required for the automotive refinish coatings.
