ENGO Participation to the Forest Sector Sustainability Table (FSST) Water Working Group (WWG)

On March 23, 2007, the Forest Sustainability Sector Table agreed to establish a Water Working Group to focus initially on the implementation of changes to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the Environmental Effects Monitoring (EEM) program and on Endocrine Disrupting Substances (EDS). The FSST established a Water Working Group (WWG) that will work collaboratively in developing a co-operative agenda for sustainable water management issues related to the pulp and paper industry.

The evergreen agenda will recommend short and long term sustainable water management strategies focusing on water quality, water use, and other emerging issues as identified.  It will serve as multistakeholder, collaborative advice to Government of Canada and other relevant stakeholders to highlight opportunities for policy priorities and direction. The Water Working Group will also prepare a work plan detailing project priorities, timelines and deliverables, along with an annual report to the FSST establishing strategies and priorities.

The Canadian Environmental Network (RCEN) selected one (1) ENGO Representative to participate in the Forest Sector Sustainability Table (FSST) Water Working Group.

Selected ENGO Representative

Delores Broten, Reach for Unbleached, is the RCEN selected representative to the WWG.

The selected ENGO representative may be expected to participate in a preparatory conference call, to take minutes and represent the views of the ENGOs during the meetings, and write up a report following the meetings.
