Closed Consultation

VOC Emissions from Consumer and Commercial Products

The RCEN has selected 4 delegates to attend the Volatile Organic Compound (VOCs) Emissions from Consumer and Commercial Products meeting, which took place on Monday, March 20, 2006 in Gatineau, Québec. The consultation included Environment Canada, its two consultants (Cheminfo and ToxEcology), the Canadian Cosmetic, Toiletry, and Fragrance Association, and the Canadian Consumer Specialty Products Association. EC’s goal was to present the findings from previous studies to the associations whose members participated. The 2 ENGOs present at this meeting had the opportunity to learn about the project and comment on the studies' findings.

Selected Delegates:

Sheila Cole, Environmental Health Association of Nova Scotia
Anna Tilman, Save The Oak Ridges Moraine Coalition (STORM)
Sandra Madray, Chemical Sensitivities Manitoba

Background information:

This work stems from the March 2004 Federal Agenda. In this agenda, Environment Canada commits to reducing the VOC emissions from Consumer and Commercial Products. In working to fulfill this commitment, EC has been collecting background information on the products encompassed by this agenda. Recently, EC has completed two studies collecting sales and VOC information for a broad range of products.
