Acid Rain Critical Loads

The Canadian Council of Ministers of the Environment (CCME) Acid Rain Task Group (ARTG) is organizing a one-day workshop to discuss the latest science on critical loads of acid deposition in Canadian ecosystems, which will take place on November 7, 2005 in Calgary, Alberta. The RCEN has selected 3 ENGO delegates to participate to this workshop: Anna Tilman (STORM Coalition), Sandra Madray (Chemical Sensitivities Manitoba) and Quentin Chiotti (Pollution Probe).

In addition to the selected ENGO delegates, the following members of ARTG will also be attending the workshop: Martha Kostuch (Prairie Acid Rain Coalition), André Bélisle (Association québécoise de lutte contre la pollution atmosphérique), Olga Schwartzkopf (Soil & Water Conservation Society, BC Chapter), and Bruce Walker (STOP).

The main objectives of the workshop are:

  • To share the latest scientific information on terrestrial and aquatic critical loads for acidity;
  • To identify and discuss the existing gaps in scientific knowledge related to critical loads;
  • To make recommendations to the ARTG to fill the science gaps related to critical loads.
