BACKGROUND INFORMATION

Environment Canada is proposing fundamental changes in their approach to the environment and have developed a new Competitiveness and Environmental Sustainability Framework (CESF), see more information on CESF

The SSTs are one specific mechanism of the Framework; they are described as a permanent forum for collaboration between federal / provincial / territorial governments and industry, Aboriginal organizations and non-governmental organizations. The Sector Tables are intended to identify how to meet the goals of the CESF through jointly developed, long-term planning, see more information on the SSTs

The RCEN organized a meeting with 43 ENGO representatives in January 2005 to discuss ENGO involvement in this process, see more information about this meeting and the outcomes.
