11th Meeting of the Subsidiary Body on Scientific, Technical and Technological Advice (SBSTTA-11) to the Convention on Biological Diversity

The RCEN selected Priscilla Sette, of the Saskatchewan Environmental Society, to be the ENGO representative for the official Canadian delegation at the 11th Meeting of the Subsidiary Body on Scientific, Technical and Technological Advice (SBSTTA-11) to the Convention on Biological Diversity, which will be held in Montreal, Canada, from  November 28 to December 2, 2005. The items for in-depth review at SBSTTA-11 are the Global Taxonomy Initiative and the Programme of Work on Dry and Sub-humid Lands.

Other items on the agenda include: Proposals on valuation of biodiversity and biodiversity resources and functions; Identification of technical options for the conservation and sustainable use of deep seabed genetic resources beyond national jurisdiction; and guidance for promoting synergy among activities addressing biological diversity, desertification, land degradation and climate change.
