Selection of ENGO representative for the CBD conference
The 1st Meeting of the Ad Hoc Open Ended Working Group on Implementation of the Convention on Biological Diversity (WGRI-1), was held in Montreal, Québec, September 5 to 9, 2005. The RCEN selected Kathryn Garforth, from the Centre for International Sustainable Development Law, to be the ENGO representative for the official Canadian delegation at the WGRI-1. The mandate of the Working Group is to:

Consider progress in the implementation of the Convention and the Strategic Plan and achievements leading up to the 2010 target in line with the multi-year programme of work for the COP.

Review the impacts and effectiveness of existing processes under the Convention, such as meetings of the COP, the SBSTTA, national focal points, and the Secretariat, as part of the overall process for improving the operations of the Convention and implementation of the Strategic Plan.

Consider ways and means of identifying and overcoming obstacles to the effective implementation of the Convention.
