Job description: Web and computer technician
Job type: Regular, full time (37.5 hours per week)

The Canadian Environmental Network (CEN) facilitates networking between environmental organizations and others who share its mandate — To Protect The Earth And Promote Ecologically Sound Ways Of Life.

The Web and Computer Technician will be responsible for the RCEN website all aspects of computer and related equipment for the RCEN. This includes updating and upgrading hardware and software and maintaining all related tools and services to ensure optimum networking and communications capabilities both internally and externally. Reporting to the Executive Director, the incumbent will provide support to the working team and will pursue opportunities to strengthen the Network's capacity in keeping abreast of new technological developments and informing the ED accordingly.

Responsibilities:

— Website development, upgrade and maintenance

  • Develops and maintains website in both French and English
  • Conducts reviews of content and utility on a quarterly basis
  • Advises ED on potential performance upgrades
  • Analyzes structure of content and consults with staff and ED about improvements
  • Develops consistent web material through the network

— Compilation and distribution of the RCEN Weekly E-Bulletin

  • Produces and distributes the Bulletin in french and english
  • Edits content to ensure editorial consistency
  • Improves distribution, design and content

— Maintenance and upgrades of the RCEN Database

  • Ensures information is up-to-date
  • Reviews and processes records from Regional Affiliates quarterly
  • Notifies Financial Coordinator for quarterly payments when records are acurate
  • Ensures the smooth functioning of the Database
  • Adapts and upgrades the Database to meet the needs of the users, ensuring consistency throughout the Network
  • Support National Office and Regional Affiliates' staff in use of the Database
  • Maintains training program/manual in usage of the Database

— Tracking, maintenance, troubleshooting and upgrading all computer-related equipment and services

  • Ensures that all computer-related equipment meets the needs of staff and Network
  • Ensures that staff are properly instructed on the use of computer equipment and software
  • Maintains and troubleshoots LAN and server
  • Installs software as required on individual computers
  • Troubleshoots problems related to individual computers and users

— Performs all other duties assigned by the Executive Director as required

Employment conditions: Six-month probationary period, unionized working environment, excellent fringe benefits, starting salary of $40,000.
