RCEN 2006 Annual Conference on the Environment: Agriculture and the Environment

October 19-22, 2006
Montreal, Quebec

Participants List - 2006 RCEN Conference & AGM

About the RCEN’s Annual Conference on the Environment

The RCEN is hosting its 2006 Annual Conference on the Environment (ACE) and Annual General Meeting (AGM) at the Centre St-Pierre in Montreal, October 19-22, 2006. The conference will welcome approximately 100 leaders from Canada’s environmental non-governmental organizations (ENGOs). This year’s conference work focus will be on ‘ Agriculture and the Environment.’

The focal point of the conference will be to instill a broader vision that creates bridges between the environmental movement and the agricultural sector. Specifically, plenary sessions will address environmental stewardship and sustainable and ecological agriculture in the goal of examining the interconnections between the environment and agriculture, discussing some of the environmental impacts, and exploring solutions to achieving sustainable agriculture. Guest speakers will discuss related topics. To complement these initiatives, the RCEN’s Agriculture Caucus will develop a Green Paper that examines the impact of agriculture on climate change, air, water, pesticides, and biodiversity, and takes a look at needed policies to address these problems. It is hoped that the Minister of the Environment, the Honourable Rona Ambrose, and the Minister of Agriculture, the Honourable Chuck Strahl, will attend. The workshop will therefore serve to build and strengthen relations between the environment and agriculture.
