Building the Eco-City: Today’s Cities
for Tomorrow’s Generations
Canadian Environmental Network’s 2004 Annual Conference
on the Environment
October 21-22, 2004
Montreal, Quebec
About the CEN
The Canadian Environmental Network (CEN) facilitates networking
between environmental organizations and others who share its mandate
— To Protect The Earth And Promote Ecologically Sound Ways
Of Life. The CEN works directly with concerned citizens and organizations
striving to protect, preserve and restore the environment, and
to affect how society thinks about environmental issues. Our network
is here to help organizations make connections with others who
share similar concerns and aspirations. CEN members are always
enthusiastic to learn from others' experience, and to assist in
developing strong partnerships to protect the environment.
The CEN is an independent, non-partisan organization. It does
not take positions on environmental issues. Rather, the CEN actively
encourages and supports those who take part in public consultation
processes, participate in working groups, or who are delegates
to national and international conferences. More and more federal
government departments favour the CEN's delegate selection process
because it is transparent, bilingual, and supported by the environmental
community for its unparalleled and effective voice for reaching
policy makers.
About the CEN’s Annual Conference on the Environment
Each year the CEN organizes its Annual Conference on the Environment
(ACE), focusing on an issue of national and international importance,
to coincide with it’s Annual General Assembly (the CEN’s
annual business meeting). The 2003 Annual Conference – entitled
“Braving the Rapids: Effective Environmental Activism in
Turbulent Times” – had fresh water as a central theme,
tying into the UN Year of Fresh Water.
For 2004, the urban environment is the central theme for the CEN’s
ACE. The purpose of the 2004 conference is to examine the challenges
facing the urban environment and to explore solutions, policy
and practical tools and models to achieve sustainability in the
urban context. The conference will feature speakers from across
Canada and from other countries, with the aim of providing conference
delegates with information and inspiration to work towards sustainability
in their community.
