Announcement – Four Substances from Priority Substances
List 1 considered not toxic
Follow-up assessments of four substances previously listed on
the first Priority Substances List (PSL1) : styrene, non-pesticidal
organotin compounds, 1,1,2,2-tetrachloroethane, and di-n-octyl
phthalate, indicate that they are not considered "toxic"
under the Canadian Environmental Protection Act (CEPA 1999), Section
64.
There were 13 substances from PSL1 for which there was insufficient
information to conclude the substances as toxic under all criteria
examined. Environment Canada and Health Canada have since reviewed
new and existing information and are now recommending that these
four substances not be considered “toxic” under CEPA
1999.
The Assessment Report is available on Environment
Canada's web site.
