The
Mining Association of Canada is organizing a technically focused Arsenic
Workshop, in association with industry, academia, consultants, federal and
provincial governments and communities of interest, with co-ordination
provided by CANMET. CEN is
invited to send 3 ENGO representatives to participate.
This
Technical Workshop on Arsenic is planned for Winnipeg, on November 7 and 8,
2002. The Workshop intends to
bring focus to this topic and the objectives of the Workshop are:
- to
review a few critical issues relating to arsenic that impact the
environmental and business performance of the mining and metallurgical
industry in Canada,
- identify
and prioritize issues that need attention,
- propose
approaches and programs that will develop resolution of these
- issues,
and
- identify
potential sources of support and funding for potential research.
Technical
presentations to share information and strategies are to be combined with
discussion groups to identify gaps and to focus research options.
In addition, the workshop will provide an opportunity to form
partnerships for sharing information and collaborative research.
Workshop
attendance will be limited to no more than 60 participants. Participants with
strong technical expertise and working experience in arsenic issues and
research are encouraged to participate.
Travel,
accommodation and meals will be covered for the ENGO participants. If you are
