The Impact of Canada’s Charities and Nonprofits
Did you know that the millions of hours of volunteer and paid work have resulted in Canada playing a central leadership role in the international environment movement? It has also meant that Canada consistently ranks amongst the top countries in the world for its overall quality of life.
Take a look at the organizational User Guide, the ideas for and about how charities and nonprofits are promoting their work and the work of the sector as a whole.
The Values Added initiative represents the culmination of a nationwide process of discourse and consideration and a decision to find the common thread that binds the work of this remarkable sector, and take it to Canadians.
Check out the Values Added website which provides basic information about the sector and guides users to organizations and websites that provide more in-depth information. The website also provides charities and nonprofits with information, tools and ideas about how they can participate in this new and exciting effort to raise awareness about the sector.

Seven national organizations have come together to collaborate and contribute to an innovative new project intended to raise awareness about the Canadian “voluntary sector”.
The purpose of the VSAP was to generate dialogue and solicit feedback from a broad range of charities and non-profits through 100 Community Conversations taking place across Canada in fall 2005, and, over the summer of 2006, to launch a public awareness campaign for all of us and for Canadians utilizing communications resources provided by the project and by you.
Greater Than the Sum of Our Parts
A Discussion Paper was widely disseminated, outlining the benefits and challenges of creating a “unified voice” for the voluntary sector. The purpose of the paper is to both raise interest and seek input on the value of a more integrated sector-wide communications strategy.
Here is a summary of main points from the “Greater Than the Sum of Our Parts” Discussion Paper.
This project offers a wonderful opportunity to challenge diverse and different voluntary organizations – like yours - to consider commonality and to think about how speaking to Canadians through a shared, vision-centered campaign may enhance your abilities to achieve your goals.
