In looking back over the last decade we in Canada have come up short of our ambitions in Agenda 21 and in our international commitments. A number of Canadian NGOs see the WSSD as an opportunity to implement commitments and create renewed momentum around sustainable development. The Canadian Environment Network and a number of non-governmental organizations (NGOs) have been collaborating around the WSSD since the end of summer 2001. There is currently an ENGO steering committee, a Canadian Earth Summit Coalition (CESC) and several initiatives taking place in preparation for the WSSD.
